About Wilco:

Wilco, a well-funded stealth startup, is looking for a Developer Community Manager to help realize our vision: empowering developers of all backgrounds and skill levels to unlock their full professional potential. This key member of our marketing team will lead all social and community initiatives.

What you’ll be doing:

Caring: Above all, you’ll need to deeply care about the experience in our developer-focused communities on Discord, social networks, Reddit, and Twitch. Building great communities takes both time and effort, and you’ll be starting pretty much from scratch.

Strategizing: We’ll need you to set a clear path for community fostering and growth. For that, you’ll need to be our users’ advocate. Are they happy? If not, what can help? More content? Better Content? More events? Promotions? You’ll need to be proactive and creative, as well as data-driven. Not every idea will be successful, sometimes you’ll need to manage crises, and that’s OK—but we’ll need you to learn from mistakes and not give up on trying to make the community thrive.

Executing: Planning is part of your job. The other part is execution. You’ll be the one posting the posts, uploading the videos, monitoring discussions. You’ll manage events, answer questions on Quora, and ensure that other stakeholders within the company pay attention to the community's needs.

What you need to do this job well (we think):

First of all, don’t treat these bullet points as rigid requirements. They’re not! They’re just what we think you need to do this job well. If you disagree and believe you are perfect for this job, don’t let anything stop you from submitting your CV. That said, here we go:

  • Fluent and idiomatic English. Use Grammarly as much as you need, but you also need to recognize when its suggestions are wrong.
  • Experience in running communities in general and on Discord.
  • Experience with engagement management on social media.
  • Community event management experience.
  • Passion about software development and education.
  • The ability to identify with developers and get into the right mindset to create content they will find engaging.
